Edo-period sake culture experience
Guided by the 16th-generation head of the family,Dr.Yoshimura Toshiyuki, you will hear valuable stories about life and food culture at the time, while tasting Japanese sake, including white sake, which was very popular during the Edo period, and snacks made with Edo miso. The most popular menu item at this standing bar and shop is tofu dengaku, which is tofu coated with miso and grilled. This historic dish goes perfectly with shirozake, a sweet rice liqueur created by Toshimaya’s founder, Juemon. There are now only a few sake breweries in Japan that make this traditional shirozake. Shirozake of Toshimaya is a precious seasonal drink that is only available from February to March, so during the other month, diffrent type sake will be served insted of Shirozake. The experience of tasting this food culture that has been passed down since the Edo period in a modern space with the 16th generation owner will be a valuable opportunity to experience with all five senses the past and present of Tokyo’s food culture.Approx time: 1 hours |
